I studied zoology and veterinary medicine at New Hall, Cambridge. I then worked as a small animal veterinary surgeon in practices in Kent, Cambridgeshire and Hampshire. I married Christopher Dobbs in 1983. He is a nautical archaeologist and works for the Mary Rose Trust in Portsmouth. We have two daughters aged seven and four, and live on the South Downs between Portsmouth and Petersfield (so not far from Bedales.) I am currently working part-time for a companion animal veterinary hospital in Portsmouth. The rest of the time I am kept busy with the family, the menagerie, the garden and our local church.
